Overview

The Perrys track the floatation industry and cultural movement from the seed of their own experiences as floaters through the design, prototyping, manufacture, and distributing of float tanks to individuals and public float centers around the world

Glenn Perry had a life changing experience when he floated in the tank invented by Dr. John C. Lilly. "When I stepped out into the sunshine, nature was a scintillating, shimmering energy system and time moved very slowly. I was asked to share my experience with the others in the workshop and for the first time in my life I had no fear talking. I had to have one for myself and they were not being made by anyone. I decided to produce them. That was the start of Lee's and my 48-year adventure." Lee and Glenn Perry created a new product, a new company and triggered a global industry. Their book tracks the floatation industry and cultural movement from the seed of the Perrys' own experiences as floaters through the design, prototyping, manufacture, and distributing of float tanks to individuals and public float centers around the world. They have changed not only their lives but the lives of many of those who float. Included in the book are a selection of vivid personal narratives and photos from floaters showing the depth and breadth of these experiences. *The float tank is a little larger around than a twin sized bed and chest high. It contains 10" of water with so much Epsom salts added, that when you get in and lie on your back, you are pushed to the surface so you float like a cork, weightless as an astronaut in space. There is a lightweight door you can leave open, or if you want to get rid of the distractions of noise and light you can close the door. It should be used however it is comfortable.

Reviews

"I would like to state for the record that Glenn and Lee Perry have my endorsement as researchers of the highest caliber in the study of belief systems. I know I can trust them never to unnecessarily influence other humans and that their approach to floating will always follow the guidelines of my own personal and professional researches in 'alternity.' I heartily recommend their practice of floating, their methods of exploration, their uses of the benign and highly beneficial technology I have pioneered. The balanced, scientific, and pristine nature of their practice has been clear to me for years and so, not only for their expertise and their ingenuity, their skill and aptitude in tank manufacture, but also and especially for their genuine integrity and sincerity in this research." —Dr. John C. Lilly, from the Foreword

Author Biography

Glenn Perry grew up on a farm which taught him problem solving, useful when he became a systems computer programmer. He was one of a handful of people who designed a time sharing system on a mainframe computer used at the beginning of the internet. He was so affected by his first use of Dr. John C. Lilly's isolation tank in Los Angeles that he got Dr. Lilly's support and blessing to manufacture tanks commercially. Floating allowed Glenn to develop the first deep relationship in his 33 years. Lee and Glenn's relationship with each other, their relationship with Dr. Lilly, their explorations of higher states of consciousness, and the quality of their life are all included in this book. Glenn continues to be blessed by insights from John that are life changing. Lee Perry has been a dancer, a student and a professional teacher of special needs children. Having received her M.A. from Univ. of Southern California, she was teaching full time in the Los Angeles school system when she discovered floating. In Lee's words: "All the amazing experiences I had as the mother of three courageous, talented, intelligent offspring—exposure to good food, music, dance, nature, travel, art and literature—prepared me for my life as the President of Samadhi Tank Company and the duties that came with it: introducing and nourishing the uses of the floatation tank to millions of floaters changing their lives."
